In 2005, after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita ravaged the Gulf Coast and forced the Mississippi Sea Wolves and Texas Wildcatters to suspend operations, the ECHL partnered up with The Salvation Army to raise money in support of the region. Each teams' home opener featured exclusive goalie jerseys and specialty pucks that were auctioned off via Meigray with proceeds going towards the rebuilding efforts.

This puck was used on October 18th, 2007 to commemorate the opening game of the leagues twentieth season. This matchup featured the oldest two teams in the league, the Johnstown Chiefs and the Wheeling Nailers, playing in the only building that had been used for the ECHL's entire twenty year history, the then Cambria County War Memorial Arena. In this game, which the Wheeling Nailers won 4-2, two future NHLers scored. Paul "Biz-Nasty" Bissonnette scored to put the Nailers up 2-0, and Mark Letestu scored his first pro goal to put the Nailers up 4-2.
